Dres' new documentary, The Choice Is Yours, debuts today on Paramount +.

Half Dres retrospective, half J Dilla documentary,The Choice Is Yours chronicles Dres of Black Sheep's career and the pitfalls of the music industry after the release of 1991's hit single "The Choice is Yours" from Black Sheep's debut album A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing. Although the album also produced the singles "Flavor Of The Month," 'Strobelight Honey," and "Similak Child," the group still struggled with the perception of being a one-hit wonder, which is covered in the film. The nearly two-hour documentary also follows the journey of Dres as he seeks the blessings of the late J Dilla's mother, Ma Dukes in securing unreleased tracks with which to release an album.

Earlier this year, while delivering his acceptance speech at his induction into D.C.'s National Hip-Hop Museum, Dres announced the upcoming Dilla collaboration.

"This is gonna speak for us. Who we are, what we do, and this moment right here," he said. He went on to explain that he doesn't currently make music out of a need to, but rather because he loves to. "This gives me the flexibility to be dope, but I need y'all to support. This particular project is a D&D project — Dilla & Dres. Through the blessing of Ma Dukes and my man Tony, I've been allowed to visit a sacred land."

He added, "I put something together that is really special. This is so special in fact that there's a film crew here filming a documentary that encompasses not only my life but the making of this project. I'm asking all of y'all to see that star when it shines, because it's gonna shine, and I'm just asking you to pay attention a little bit."

The Choice Is Yours features interviews with Pete Rock, Kim Osorio, Ma Dukes, Paul Rosenberg, Posdnous, Jarobi, and Frank Nitti.
