Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick, DMC, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, and LL COOL J closed out the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards with a cross-generational tribute to Hip-Hop's 50th anniversary.

The tribute started with a reunited Grandmaster Flash & The Furious performing their groundbreaking hit, "The Message," and transitioned to Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick performing their smash hit, "The Show." VMA co-host Nicki Minaj gave a riveting performance of "Red Ruby Da Sleeze" to thunderous applause and participation from the crowd, which merged right into her Young Money label mate Lil Wayne's performance of "A Milli."

LL COOL J gave an energetic performance of a medley of his hits including, "I'm Bad" and "Mama Said Knock You Out" before bringing out DMC of Run DMC for joint performances of their hits "Rock Box" and "Walk The This Way." They were joined by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5.

In addition, MTV will air a special presentation of the 2023 Rock The Bells Festival on Sept. 19 at 11 pm EST.
