The death of beloved actor Chadwick Boseman, star of hits like 42 and Black Panther, sent shockwaves through the entertainment community and devastated fans of the iconic movie star around the world.
Boseman rose to fame after starring as baseball legend Jackie Robinson in the biopic 42 in 2013, and he followed his breakout role with a string of acclaimed performances. He starred as "Godfather of Soul" James Brown in 2016s Get On Up, and was Thoth, the Egyptian God of Wisdom, in Gods Of Egypt that same year. In 2017, Boseman made his first appearance as T'Challa, the Marvel superhero known as Black Panther, in Captain America: Civil War.
Boseman followed ...Civil War with a starring role as Thurgood Marshall in 2017s Marshall before returning to the Black Panther for the superhero's titular film. Boseman became a global icon after the release of 2018s groundbreaking Black Panther, a billion dollar-grossing megahit for the successful Marvel franchise. The role and the blockbuster film drew praise for its depiction of Blackness onscreen and for the craft of the mostly-Black film crew. Boseman would reprise the role of T'Challa in two other Marvel blockbusters, 2018s Avengers: Infinity War and 2019s Avengers: Endgame.
He starred in Spike Lee's Vietnam drama Da 5 Bloods, released in 2020, and co-stars in the film adaptation of August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, due to be released later in 2020.
News of his death at age 43 sparked an immediate outpouring of grief, with notables from LL COOL J to Will Smith paying homage to the fallen star.
