Rapper/community activist Mistah F.A.B. was honored with the key to the city of Oakland on Oct. 18.

"The honor of having a key to the city means a lot," the rapper said in an interview with Live! In The Bay. "This has always been a childhood dream of mine, to just try to make a difference. Music is one thing, and I love my gift, my passion, but using my platform to help others, that's the greatest gift."

F.A.B., who's been active in the community for more than two decades, said that giving back means "more than any song I could ever create."

"The children that have been abandoned by the village will come back and burn the village down, and the children that have been embraced by the village will come back and build the village up," he said.

He went on to say that he may not always do things the "politically correct" way but "as long as my village understands that my mission is to leave this place better than it was when I got here," he knows he's on the right path.
