Missy Elliott cemented herself as one of hip-hop’s most iconic acts, ever since she burst onto the scene as an artist to keep an eye on with her debut album, Supa Dupa Fly. Throughout her career, Missy has proven to be an elite emcee, a showstopping performer, and a versatile songwriter, making her one of the most respected artists of a generation. Now, in 2022 Elliott has the highest number of platinum records amongst all female rappers.

Chart Data reported that all six of the Virginia legend’s studio albums are certified platinum or higher, as her last studio album, 2005’s The Cookbook, sold over one million records in late January. Elliot celebrated the monumental milestone on Twitter as she shared her win with all her “sisters in hip-hop,” encouraging them to continue their work.

“This is a HUGE MILESTONE! No matter how long it took to get here, I am here & I AM HUMBLY GRATEFUL,” she tweeted. “To all my SISTERS in HIP HOP, y’all keep doing y’all thang & SHINING.”

Over the past two years, Missy Elliott has received major awards, celebrating her influential career and contributions to hip-hop culture.
