Killer Mike is ready to drop his first solo album in 10 years, MICHAEL, later this month. Ahead of its release, he shared some insight about his single with his longtime friend and fellow Atlanta native, Andre 3000.

The song is called "Scientists & Engineers” and at first, Andre was iffy about whether or not they should release it.

“André 3000, he’s in Japan right now as we talk, playing the flute,” Mike explained in a video from his recent listening session. “He called me, he’s like, ‘Kill, I don’t know about the song, man. We just got a good rap record, man.’"

Thing is, Andre still hadn't heard the completed version of the song, with the hook's vocals.

" And then Cuz [Lightyear] was like, ‘You sent him the final record?’ I’m like, ‘Nah.’ I sent it over with Eryn’s hook and stuff. He hit back with, ‘Yeah, yeah, you got the record. Who is that?!' So thank you, Eryn, I really appreciate you for that.”

Kane, a singer/songwriter from Detroit, is also featured on Mike's poignant lead single, "MOTHERLESS," and her aching vocals add depth to a song that already is dripping with emotion, as Mike details how the loss of his grandmother and mom have impacted his perspective, relationships, and outlook on the future.

"Scientists & Engineers” is Andre 3000's first feature since his incredible appearance on Kanye West's “Life of the Party" in 2021. Andre 3000 and Killer Mike's relationship runs deep, and stretches back to the late 90s. Mike won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance Duo or Group for his 2001 collaboration with OutKast, "The Whole World."

Mike kicks off his High & Holy tour in July. MICHAEL arrives on June 16.
