The song samples Marvin Gaye’s 1976 classic “I Want You,” which Lamar interpolates on the song’s hook. The track gives more insight into Lamar’s latest alter ego, oklama, starting the track with the caption, “I am. All of us,” before he raps from the perspective of many controversial Black public figures in popular culture. As a continuation of his beloved “The Heart” series, the song is likely a preview of the prominent themes in Lamar’s upcoming album.

Kendrick Lamar has been teasing Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers through his new website, oklama.com. Most recently, the emcee made a post titled "Master," where he shared a photo of two discs titled “Morale” and “Steppers” leading to fan speculation of a double album. After a five-year hiatus since his Pulitzer prize-winning album, DAMN, Hip-Hop fans are elated about the return of Compton’s favorite emcee.
