Kendrick Lamar's 'Mr. Morale...' Was Spotify's Most Streamed Rap Album in 2022

Kendrick Lamar scored another win — he had the most streamed rap album on Spotify in 2022, per Chart Data. The Pulitzer Prize winner's latest effort, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, an introspective, sometimes brutally personal examination of Black love, trauma, and resiliency, pushed him to the top spot.

The info isn't surprising. In August, Kendrick became the first rapper to hit 1 billion streams on Spotify in 2022 with the acclaimed album (which also landed on ROCK THE BELLS' Favorite Albums of 2022 list), which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in May.

In addition to hitting those two big milestones, Mr. Morale scored another big win for Kendrick — this time with the Grammys. He's the first artist ever to have four consecutive albums nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys with the album's nomination. He was first nominated for the award back in 2012 for his major label debut album, the new age classic Good Kid, MAAD City. He was nominated again for Album of the Year for his follow-up, landmark album, To Pimp A Butterfly in 2015. Then DAMN. rolled around in 2017, landing yet another nomination in the category, not to mention the Pulitzer Prize for Music, the first Hip-Hop album to do so. We'll have to see if Mr. Morale can pick up the Album of the Year award, it's up against another majorly acclaimed project, Beyoncé's Renaissance.
