Kendrick Lamar Feels the "Love" From Viral Video of Security Crying Over His Song

The video of a security guard weeping at a Kendrick Lamar concert as the rapper performed his song "LOVE" made the rounds over the past few days, with people chiming in about how the emotional track from 2017's Pulitizer Prize-winning album, DAMN. resonated with them. In the video, the guard can be seen wiping away tears and tapping his heart as he mouthed the lyrics, "I'm like an exit away." Kendrick himself chimed in on the video, during an interview with a young reporter, Jazlyn Guerra.

Guerra caught up with Kendrick after his recent headlining set at Rolling Loud Miami 2022, where he told her garnering raw reactions from listeners is especially fulfilling.

“It’s really just about the feeling of it, at the end of the day," he said. "Past all the politics. Past all the numbers. It’s what music makes you feel. So, to see that… shout out to him by the way, ’cause I seen bro, and I was like, ‘I wonder what he going through?’”

Kendrick said that's really what music is about. “That’s how you want everybody to receive your music," he said. "And make them feel good, make them feel like it’s a moment they attached to. It can live forever.”

The security guard, later identified as Devyn Sanford, reacted to his viral video as well on TikTok, saying, “It’s f–king Kendrick Lamar, of course I was crying, dog.”

Kendrick kicked off the North American leg of his Big Steppers Tour in support of his latest release, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, earlier this month.
