Jay-Z On Retirement: "I'm Not Good At It"

Jay-Z Talks Retirement With Kevin Hart: "I'm Not Good At It"

Comedian Kevin Hart recently spoke with Jay-Z on an episode of the second season of his Hart to Heart show. In the interview, the comedian/actor asked Jay directly if the rap superstar was he retired.

"Are you retired?" Hart questioned, while referencing Jay's 2003 retirement announcement. "Because you announced it."

"No, I tried that and I'm not good at it," Jay explained. "I just needed a break. I was really burned out at the time releasing an album every year and soundtracks between. I was on other peoples albums, [running] Roc-A-Fella, touring back to back. I looked up one day and I was tired."

Jay revealed that he had never been on a vacation in his life until the year 2000. Though not currently retired, Jay says he doesn't know what his next move is.

"I don't know what happens next. I'm not actively making music, or making plans to make an album, but I never wanna say I'm retired. It's a gift, and who am I to shut it off?"

Jay's last full length album was 2017's 444. See the interview snippet above.
