Jay-Z was honored with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the 2024 Grammy Awards. After hitting the stage with his daughter Blue Ivy, the "Where I'm From" MC gave a heartfelt acceptance speech. "Thanks to Dr. Dre for all the doors that you opened, you showed us that we could be rock stars," he said. "Obviously there's Run-DMC, but you took it to a new level."

Jay also pointed out how far Hip-Hop has come since '89 and Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's Grammy boycott. "They boycotted because it wasn't televised, but then went to a hotel and watched it. I didn't understand that. It wasn't a great boycott," he said. Jay said further that he later boycotted the awards in '98 when DMX who dropped two number one albums that year wasn't nominated.

Later in his speech Jay encouraged the Grammy's to "get it right". "We love y'all, but we want y'all to get it right, or at least close to right," he said. "Obviously it's subjective because its music, and it's opinion based, and I don't wanna embarrass this young lady [Beyonce], but she has more Grammys than everyone and has never won album of the year, so even by your own metrics that doesn't work."
