In honor of TNT TYB and Jah-Sol’s debut albums, the two artists held a joint album release party together at New York’s exclusive SoHo House on Friday (April 8.)

Held at the member-only Soho house in Chelsea, New York, the two artists joined forces to host their collective album release. Upon arrival, guests entered a dimly lit room located on the bottom floor of the Soho house; a room that was only illuminated by purple neon lights which glistened on Jah-Sol and TNT TYB. The two artists who are the central focus of the night. The crowd of 20-something year olds, packed the small room and cheered on as Jah-Sol stepped on stage. Jah-Sol is a self proclaimed song writer, producer, guitarist and bassist. He considers his music a unique blend of R&B, soul, Hip-Hop, funk and rock.

After his electrifying performance of his eponymous debut album, he caught up with Rock The Bells to describe what this album meant to him. “It was really interesting because one of my biggest influences is Portishead. They're like this British trip hop band from the 1990’s, they’re so good," he shared. “So, this album was kind of like me trying to encapsulate what I really loved about them but infusing it with actual rap and Hip-Hop. Kind of trying to make it like my own.”

Jah-Sol explained that his career has been in the making since he was a child, and releasing his debut album is a dream come true.

“I’ve been playing rock music since I was six, I started playing guitar because I fell in love with the game ‘Guitar Hero’, when I was little and I fell in love with guitar and I told myself ‘let me see what kind of solos I can replicate from this crazy ass game. I just kept learning different rock songs and it was fun, I just kept having a good time.” As far as his album Jah Sol, he says he wants people to appreciate the art form of an album versus an individual song. “I want people to appreciate albums more for what they are. I talk a little bit about this on the song ‘Acknowledge It’ [...] nobody really listens to singles anymore and I’m like ‘that’s not right’ people should be able to appreciate albums. Some of my favorite pieces of music are full complete albums, and [songs] that are placed where they are in the album changes the way you look at the entire song."

TNT TYB was the next man of the hour, performing his debut album Deception.  The 18 year-old producer, singer, rapper and songwriter is based in Brooklyn, he says his art mirrors trap, alternative and Hip-Hop. Jah Sol joined him on the dimly lit stage as his guitarist for each of the ten songs performed. We caught up with TNT TYB after his performance and he explained his battles with depression, addiction, and  mental health struggles he’s dealt with which he captures in his project.

“The whole album was made over the span of four years. Four years ago I was at my lowest in terms of mental health, depression, anxiety, things like that. As a kid, especially a Black kid, we don’t have a lot of outlets and you don’t feel like you can go to a lot of people and tell them what you have going on emotionally. Music became my outlet because I didn’t have another option and I felt like I was running into a lot of walls. That’s where this album came from.”

TNT TYB said he believes the next step for his career is sitting down with his team and talking about signing with a record label along with touring.

“I’m not opposed to anything, I just have to be introduced and talk to these people to see what they want to do. I feel like I need to talk to these people [Record labels] and know their intentions. I am going on a local tour around New York City and partnering with different organizations and nonprofits that deal with mental health and therapy facilities that can help -especially youth, black youth, with mental health issues and that’s what I’m going to use this album as, a word of advocacy you can say.”

Both Deception and Jah Sol are available now on all streaming platforms.
