J. Cole Shares Poignant Message from Ari Lennox Ahead of Her Album

Published Wed, August 31, 2022 at 12:10 PM EDT

Dreamville singer Ari Lennox is set to release her much-anticipated album age/sex/location next month, and ahead of its release, J. Cole posted a text from Ari explaining exactly what the new project means to her.

“I asked Ari what this new album means to her,” Cole captioned the post. “I needed to know cuz I fuck with it so heavy. What I hear is the highs, lows, joys and pains of dating life in 2022. But her answer made it even deeper for me. Appreciate you @arilennox Looking forward to the rest of the world hearing it.”

In the message, Ari says the project is mostly about healing and coming to terms with herself, her desires, and her needs.

“No more tip toeing," she wrote. "No more docile. Providing grace and compassion to myself. Blocking those that no longer serve me or just literally not responding. Blocking the resistance to heal. Allowing accountability and maturing. Allowing growth to happen. Allowing self worth and self love and inner work to happen. Allowing therapy. Allowing dating me to happen. Doing things I like to do whenever I want.”

This is Ari's follow-up to her critically-acclaimed 2019 album, Shea Butter Baby. Earlier this week, she shared the cover art for the project.

Ari's new album arrives on Sept 9. Watch her video for "Hoodie" below.
