Gloria Rodriguez, known to the world of Hip-Hop as Hurricane G has died at 52. A cause of death has not been confirmed but her passing was confirmed on Sunday evening (11/6).
The celebrated MC was part of The Hit Squad conglomerate of MC's with EPMD, Keith Murray, Das EFX and Redman. Most rap fans were first introduced to her on Redman's "Tonight's The Night" from his 1992 debut album Whut? Thee Album, where she instructs Redman in the intro to "Get off that smooth shit, and get with that rough shit."
We heard from her sporadically after that introduction and being name-dropped by Redman. In an undated YouTube video she attributed the delay to "politics and personal stuff."
"It just wasn't my time," she said. Gloria was involved in a romantic relationship with EPMD's Erick Sermon, which resulted in a daughter. "It was more personal than business, then the business got into it and it got a little shaky," she said. "But we still have a tight relationship now due to our beautiful little princess."
