Hip-Hop legend Grand Daddy I.U. has died at 54. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed but his longtime friend DJ Chuck Chillout shared the news on Facebook.
The talented rapper/producer and Juice Crew member emerged in the late 80s, eventually signing to Cold Chillin' Records. His debut album, Smooth Assassin, produced the tracks, “Something New” and “Sugar Free” which peaked at #11 and #9 respectively. HIs sophomore album, Lead Pipe, arrived in 1994, and he released two more albums, Stick to the Script and P.I.M.P. (Paper Is My Priority), which arrived in 2015.
I.U.'s talent was recognized early by another HIp-Hop legend, Biz Markie, and I.U. went on to make waves in HIp-Hop throughout the years, ghostwriting and producing for Das EFX, Heltah Skeltah, KRS-One, and Ice-T, among others. In more recent years, he'd launched a podcast series, The Cook Up: Top 10.
