ROCK THE BELLS' New Series 'Flowers' Honoring Hip-Hop Legend Too $hort Premieres Tonight

Flowers, a new docu-series that follows prominent Hip-Hop artists on a milestone day, celebrating their accomplishments and giving them their rightful recognition, is set to debut on ROCK THE BELLS TV tonight (Feb. 8).

Oakland legend Too $hort stars in the pilot episode, which captures the Hip-Hop icon as he achieves three major milestones — receiving a key to the city of Oakland, having a street named after him (Too $hort Way), and getting a day named in his honor.

In one clip, $hort, who relocated to Oakland from L.A. when he was 14, breaks down exactly how he got his moniker. "My brother and his friends started calling me 'Short,'" he remembers. "They were like, 'We can't call you Todd. Fuck that.' The name they came up with was 'Short.' They were like, 'We can't even think of a name — you just Short.'"

Flowers was filmed throughout Oakland, including at his alma mater, Fremont High School, where he received a key to the city. The event was capped by a high school band playing $hort's hits, including "Blow The Whistle" and the rap classic "Gettin' It."

"Y'all celebratin' Too $hort but I'm celebratin' Oakland," he declares in his celebration speech. "The one and only thing that inspired me to become the rapper that I am is Oakland, California."

Flowers premiers on ROCK THE BELLS TV tonight at 7 p.m. EST. Subscribe to get alerts about new episodes before they drop.
