As Fat Joe continues to promote his autobiography The Book of Jose, he sat down recently for an interview with GQ where he discussed his friendship and relationship with Brooklyn mogul and MC Jay-Z. The two had a long-running rivalry, and Joe is now managed by Jay's Roc Nation.

"It's a beautiful thing to hit Jay and he hits you back," the "Lean Back" MC said. "He's been an amazing partner to me, especially in me doing philanthropy. The only time I ask Jay for something is so that we can team up and give back to the people. He's there one million percent of the time."

Joe told Angie Martinez that the rivalry between he and Jay originated at the legendary Entertainers Basketball Classic at Rucker Park. Joe led a team to six championships at the streetball competition.

"I'm 99 and one as coach Fat Joe," he told Martinez. "Jay-Z is the richest guy in the world. Real estate, cars and planes he has the most beautiful wife in the world. The one thing that I loved was The Rucker. One year, the great Jay-Z decides to put a team [together] at the Rucker. I felt like why do they wanna come to my park and take my little crown that I got. That hurt."

Both Jay and Joe's teams reach the championship, but Jay's team didn't show up, resulting in a win for Fat Joe's team due to forfeit. "You don't know how had I tried not to make it into a beef or confrontation. I couldn't turn the switch off."

Joe told GQ that an unreleased 2019 duet exists featuring the two rappers. "He was talkin' about NFL stuff on the song. He had just signed that big deal with the NFL, so he wanted to let it go," Joe remembered. "Yeah he gave it to me, but I guess his people were like 'Yo, bro you just did a deal with them, how are you going to go in like that?'"

Joe claims to still have a copy of the song. "I have a copy here. I don't listen to it, but I got it," he said. "Let me put it clear. Dre of Cool & Dre got it. I don't have it."
