DMC: "I Wasn't Supposed To Be On 'Its Like That'/'Sucker MC's', That Was Run's Record"

In an exclusive interview with Rock The Bells, DMC revealed that he almost didn't appear on the group's debut game changer, "Its Like That"/"Sucker MC's". "I wasn't supposed to be on the record," he explained in response to why his 'Sucker MC's' verse was so short.

"It was Run's whole record,' he added. "Russell [Simmons] didn't want me in the studio. He only let me rhyme on 'It's Like That' because I wrote it with Run. Run fought for me, he was like ,'He wrote the damn record let him do it.'"

DMC also explained that Run went into the studio with the intention of being a solo artist, down to his name. "Run was a solo artist called Run The MC," he recalls. "I was just fortunate that my initials are DMC, so Run The MC turns into Run-DMC. Me and Run didnt wanna be Run-DMC, we wanted to be the Terrible 2, or the Treacherous 2 - that's what it was about. Run-DMC sounds normal now, but imagine first hearing that."
