Earlier this week, Griselda's Conway The Machine addressed on IG Live what he perceives as gatekeeping in New York radio, suggesting that newer, younger DJs were needed. Conway's claim caused a frenzy on social media with users taking sides. Funkmaster Flex joined the conversation, insinuating that with all of the major cosigns that Griselda has received, perhaps they may have peaked if they still are unhappy with their careers.

"You're a 40 plus 'bar rapper'', said the Hot 97 mainstay. "You're managed by Roc Nation (Jay Z), signed to Shady Records (Eminem) and distributed by Interscope (major label)."

Conway returned to IG on Wednesday (7/14) to clarify his position.

"I just want to make a few things clear. I don't care about a n-gga playing me on the radio, bro. That never was my premise. I'm not asking or crying out for why you don't play me."

The "Chanel Pearls" rapper then explained the origins of his issue. "N--gas sent me a video of Flex and Wallo with Gillie and them and Wallo asked about Griselda. Flex was like, 'I f-ck with them, I like what they doin' but it ain't my vibe. I don't listen to it personally'. Why you have to do that bro? You don't know what they shit could potentially do, your opinions and sh-t. Keep that to yourself."

Legendary producer and DJ Pete Rock responded to Flex as well, insinuating that he no longer plays real artists or breaks new music.

"You do this to your own people in your own city," said The Chocolate Boy Wonder. Flex replied to Pete that he respects his legacy of production, but suggested that he is musically out of touch. "Your career was over the day you stopped realizing that HIP-HOP can't be dictated."
