Common Calls 'Like Water For Chocolate' a "Life Changing Album"

On the 24th anniversary of Common's fourth album, Like Water For Chocolate he took to IG to explain the personal significance of the project. "24 years ago today I released an album that would change my life," he wrote. "Thank you to everyone who created and contributed to this piece and everyone who inspired and cultivated me during that time."

Common also thanked Questlove, J Dilla, James Poyser, Bilal, Black Thought, D'Angelo, MC Lyte, Monie Love, Jill Scott, his father and others. he wrote further: “And for all those who supported this album and to this day come up to me and say it was their favorite album of mine…thank you. I receive that with Love and Gratitude.”

2000's Like Water For Chocolate became Common's first album to enter the Billboard 200, as will as his first single to break the Hot 100. The J Dilla produced "The Light" peaked at number 44.
