A Bellflower mural honoring legends like Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Vin Scully, Kobe Bryant and Danny Trejo is getting pushback form the City of Los Angeles.

The city cites the mural as a code violation and threatened to have it painted over. The mural located at the Speedy Auto Tint Shop is loved by many in the community although the city says that it has received several complaints about it.

Nearby resident William Aguinaldo told Fox 11 News that he has no problem with the piece. "We think it should stay up, because it's a beautiful piece of artwork" he said. "I don't understand why it needs to come down. Everyone loves it, and I don't think that it's offending anybody."

The mural was created by artist Slow Motions and it took almost a month to finish. Property owner Renae Cornejo expressed her frustration at the city to Fox 11. "I get it, I guess we broke a code that we didn't know about, we own the property," she explained.

The city said in a statement, "The mural does not comply with the established mural standards in the Municipal Code, and we have received complaints about that fact. The Mayor is actively seeking an appropriate solution."

Resident Ruben Castro voiced support for the mural, stating that it depicts local heroes. "Every single one of these guys is someone that we looked up to if you were born in Southern California," he said.

The mural is safe for the next month, as the property owners prepare to submit more info to city lawmakers. A hearing with city council planned for early June should settle the issue. Meanwhile, the Speedy Auto Tint Shop IG page contains a petition with thousands of signatures in favor of saving the mural.
