Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott's longtime friendship and creative kinship has garnered a lot of attention as of late, particularly after Busta picked up the BET Lifetime Achievement Award last week and Missy congratulated her "twin" in a post on social media.
During an interview with Apple Music that was posted on Friday (June 30), Busta explained why doing a Verzuz with Missy is out of the question. Basically, he just loves her too much. Although he's open to doing a Verzuz showdown because “ain’t nobody playing with me, period," he said he wouldn't battle Missy.
“Never with Missy,” he said. “The reason why I can’t ever do a Verzuz or even compete with Missy on a challenging level is ’cause that’s my twin … I’m Missy and she’s Busta Rhymes. I will never ever ever ever ever, because I love her so much, I can’t talk my shit the way I would want to in a Verzuz.”
He said a Verzuz with Missy, who is set to be the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, wouldn't even be a competition, but a "celebration" because they have so much mutual respect for one another. Check out the interview below.
