When UGK and Jay-Z linked up for their iconic collaboration, "Big Pimpin'" — which was only further enhanced by the Hype Williams-assisted visuals — the culture understood that something very important had occurred.

Over the years, we've come to learn that the first collaboration almost didn't happen. Pimp C actually equated to the link up as, "career suicide."

As it turns out, UGK actually had an opportunity to do a sequel to the song, but this time, UGK passed on it.

While appearing on the Math Hoffa podcast, Bun B said, “UGK was Pimp’s baby and he would put his heart and soul into it. And he didn’t wanna do all of that to get to this point and do one song with somebody and have his legacy perverted. That was the way he looked at it.”

According to Bun, their record label, Jive, wanted to do a sequel to "Big Pimpin" that would involve buying a verse from Jay-Z, a beat from Timbaland, and a music video from Hype Williams.

But UGK was already $2.5 million dollars in the hole with their label, so, "running it back," would only result in a bigger debt to pay back. The duo decided to pass.

UGK released Dirty Money in 2001 with notable features from Devin the Dude, 8Ball & MJG, Three 6 Mafia, Big Gipp, and Too $hort.
