Black Thought, one of Hip-Hop's most clever lyricists, has dropped a literal "Love Letter To Hip Hop."
The BET-sponsored video finds Thought in an empty room rhyming acapella in front of a video montage that features images that reflect many of the events that he chronicles in his rhyme. Grandmasters Flash and Theodore, Sylvia Robinson, Big Daddy Kane, Common, Sha Rock, Queen Latifah and more are name-dropped on the four-minute Benny Boom-directed piece.
Thought spits: "When Sylvia Robinson became a Hip-Hop mogul/who could've known we'd ever reach the tip top total/or how one common cause could become so noble/ that we'd be going exit through the gift shop global". As always Black Thought is extremely poetic dropping double entendres and metaphors that may take multiple listens to appreciate.
“This is a Love Letter to Hip Hop for me because Hip Hop is the love of my life,” Black Thought told Rolling Stone. “No matter what medium that it is that you’re working in, if you’re painting a picture, if you’re writing a book or writing a song, those works of art that resonate the most are when you actually pour your true self into it.”
