Last week, Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) and Talib Kweli announced the return of Black Star with their first album in 24 years, titled No Fear of Time. On Saturday (April 9), the duo released the album’s Black Thought assisted lead single, “Mineral Mountain,” exclusively on the Luminary podcast network.

The highly anticipated 9-track project is entirely produced by legendary California producer Madlib, who previewed some music from the forthcoming album at the Day N Vegas music festival last year.

“Mineral Mountain” finds the duo trading bars with the legendary Roots MC over signature psychedelic Madlib production. The track is exclusively available to stream as an episode of Yasiin Bey, Talib Kweli, and Dave Chappelle’s Midnight Miracle podcast.

Black Star and Black Thought’s relationship runs deep, as the trio have worked together on countless occasions throughout their careers. Aside from their Soulquarians affiliation, the trio teamed up on the Pete Rock-produced “Flying High” remix of Mos and Kweli’s “Respiration” in 1999.

Black Thought also shared the mic with Mos Def on The Roots’ “Double Trouble,” “Rising Down,” and “The Hurricane,” while teaming up with Kweli on songs like “Guerrilla Monsoon Rap,” “Rolling With Heat,” and “I Will Not Apologize.”

During his recent interview with Drink Champs, Kanye West claimed he heard the album in its entirety, calling it the best Hip-Hop album since his magnum opus, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Make sure to check out Black Star’s new track “Mineral Mountain” exclusively on the Luminary app on The Midnight Miracle podcast channel.
