Some Of Hip-Hop's Biggest Names Question Kendrick Lamar As Super Bowl Halftime Headliner

Since the announcement earlier this week (9/8) of Kendrick Lamar as Super Bowl 2025 halftime show headliner, several top names in Hip-Hop have voiced disagreement with the choice. Nicki Minaj, Master P, Cam'ron, Baby and others have suggested that Lil Wayne would be a better choice as a native of New Orleans where the Super Bowl is played this year.

Jay-Z's Roc Nation is executive producing the halftime show which will be presented by Apple Music. Many have directed anger towards Jay-Z for the perceived Wayne snub, most notably Nicki Minaj. "Denying a young black man what he rightfully out in this game for no reason other than your ego," she posted to X (formerly known as Twitter).

It’s in New Orleans, and you don’t get Lil Wayne? Not just Hot Boyz, Cash Money, all the songs Lil Wayne has done, there’ no reason why Lil Wayne should not be performing at the Super Bowl.”

Jay-Z, whose title is NFL Music Strategist released a statement on 9/8, the day of the announcement. "Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer,” Jay said of the Pulitzer prize winner. “His deep love for Hip-Hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”

“As Ambassador of Entertainment in the City of New Orleans I have to agree with the fans that Lil Wayne should be a part of this celebration as well,' Master P posted to X. Cam'ron spoke about the selection on his It Is What It Is podcast. "I love Kendrick Lamar, I loved the pop-out," he said. "I think he’s one of the top artists of this generation, period. Hate the selection. It’s not really a secret. Lil Wayne had a problem with somebody before who’s kinda part of the organization running it. This is payback. "Hating in this age is crazy," his co-host Ma$e added.

Baby, CEO of Cash Money Records, who Lil Wayne is signed to chimed in as well. "These n**gaz Pussi @NICKIMINAJ @Drake @LilTunechi YMCMB. I’m make these n**gaz respek us on Gladys,” he posted.
