The 2023 nominations for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are in, and A Tribe Called Quest and Missy Elliott made the list. Iron Maiden, Rage Against The Machine, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, and Willie Nelson were also nominated.

This is the first year Missy has been eligible for nomination. Her landmark debut album, Supa Dupa Fly dropped in 1997, which means she means she meets the 25-year criteria. She is now the first female Hip-Hop artist ever to be nominated.

She reacted to the news on Instagram. “I have cried my eyes out,” she said. "I am so HUMBLY GRATEFUL for this nomination with also 14 other Amazing artist so grateful[.] To All of you & my fans who been through this journey with me I Thank You also 4 helping me get here[.] YOU ROCK.”

Tribe was nominated last year and has earned another nomination this year, making the chances higher that they'll earn enough votes to make the induction cut this go around.

If both Tribe and Missy are inducted, they'll join a growing number of Hip-Hop artists who've been inducted into the Rock Hall, including Eminem, who was inducted in last year's class. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5 were the first Hip-Hop group to be inducted in 2007, and since then Run DMC, N.W.A., Jay-Z, LL COOL J, The Notorious B.I.G, 2Pac, Public Enemy, and Beastie Boys have all been inducted.
