5 Easter Eggs That You May Have Missed During The Super Bowl LVI Halftime Performance

Dr. Dre commanded a star studded performance at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime show on Sunday night accompanied by Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J Blige and surprise guest 50 Cent. During the fast paced performance here are a few Easter eggs that you may have missed:

1. Eve After Dark - On the halftime set amongst the barber shop and other buildings was a spot called Eve After Dark (Snoop and Dre performed on it during “The Next Episode”). Eve After Dark was a night club run by “Lonzo” Williams of the World Class Wreckin Cru’ which was the first group that Dr. Dre was a part of at the start of his career as a D.J. Lonzo was Dre's group mate in World Class and Eve After Dark was their home base. To include that building almost four decades later is a dope nod to Dre’s earliest days.

2. Snoop And Mom - During the performance of “The Next Episode” when Snoop is in front of the guitar and piano players there are various pictures on the wall behind him. One is of his iconic debut album cover for Doggy Style.  There is also an image from the video for “What’s My Name”, where Snoop transforms into a dog. Lastly there is a portrait of Snoop with his mother Beverly Tate who passed away in October of 2021.

3. Em takes A Knee - Eminem takes a knee right after his performance of “Lose Yourself”. It was rumored that the NFL warned against this action, but NFL spokesman Brian McCarhy says that report is false and that the NFL watched every rehearsal and Eminem’s nod to Colin Kaepernick was included in every performance.

4. I Ain’t Mad At Cha - After Eminem’s performance of “Lose Yourself” Dr. Dre goes to the piano and plays the melody from Tupac's posthumous hit “I Ain’t Mad At Cha” briefly, causing some to speculate that the rumor of a Tupac hologram performance was about to take place.

5. The Police - There was an unconfirmed report from The Puck that the NFL flagged Dr. Dre’s reference on “Still D.R.E.” about not having love for law enforcement and that Dre’ would alter the lyric in compliance. Dre did in fact say “still not lovin’ police”, while Kendrick Lamar self-censored and altered the line “We hate po-po” instead saying “We hate” and muting the word po-po.
