2 Chainz On Leaving Ludacris' Disturbing Tha Peace: "That Was a Disconnection..."

2 Chainz was once signed to Ludacris’ Disturbing Tha Peace label as one half of the Atlanta rap duo Playaz Circle, under 2 Chainz's original rap name "Tity Boi." After a name change, group disbandment and a new home at Def Jam, 2 Chainz is one of the most successful rap artists in the genre. On an upcoming episode of Drink Champs, 2 Chainz recalled his exit from Ludacris and DTP.

“I woke up and called Ludacris and said ‘I don’t want to be on the label anymore,'" he remembered. "Then they said ‘You can’t do that. You can’t just get off a label like that.’”

When asked by host N.O.R.E. why he wanted to leave one of the most successful labels in the business at the time, 2 Chainz explained that even the label's name bothered him a bit.

“I’m not ignorant, but let me be honest," he shared. "The name alone 'DTP (Disturbing Tha Peace)', that’s a misdemeanor. I’m a whole felon. I been a felon since I was 15 years old. That’s been a disconnection with me, I’ve probably never said this to anyone since day one. Humbly speaking, that was a disconnection for me because that wasn’t a charge that I had.”

2 Chainz recently announced that the deluxe edition of his upcoming album Dope Don’t Sell Itself will feature a new collaboration with Justin Bieber. Chainz and Bieber collaborated previously on the remix of Bieber’s  “Boyfriend.”
