One of the greatest duos in Hip-Hop shook up the rap scene with their thunderous 1993 Suave House Records debut, Comin Out Hard, confirming what underground Memphis rap fans already knew – they were destined for something greater.
Balancing one another stylistically, with Ball’s vivid storytelling and MJG’s fast, lyrical wordplay, Eightball & MJG have always been top-level emcees with a great sense of musicality. In the early and mid-90s, they were the franchise act for Suave House Records, the most dominant label in the South alongside Rap-A-Lot Records, shaping their sound alongside talented in-house producer (and fellow Mempis native), T-Mix. But Eightball & MJG influence extends well beyond the South, evidenced when they eventually connected for short stints on Diddy’s Bad Boy South label and T.I. 's Atlanta-based imprint, Grand Hustle.
In the decades since their commanding debut, the Orange Mound vets have remained the same — gifted lyricists with a natural ear for music and an uncanny presence on the mic. Top-level emcees with a lengthy discography that backs up their talent, Eightball & MJG are one of the greatest, quietly influential duos in rap history.
