The Idol Makers crew helped rap music storm the mainstream charts, and it was largely the vision of one man. The crew consisted of Salt-N-Pepa, Kid n Play, Sweet Tee, Dana Dane, Kwamé and Antoinette. There have been moguls and producers since recorded Rap’s inception, but none were as synonymous withbothtitles as the man behind Idol Makers management: Hurby “Luv Bug” Azor.

The Idol Makers roster was diverse and bursting with talent that represented some of the best output from Rap’s more lighthearted, fun and innocent side.

Hurby’s infectious blend of Hip-Hop, pop, R&B, dance, and go-go made for multiplatinum success—first with Salt-N-Pepa, then with Dana Dane, Kid ’n Play, Kwamé, and others. He made records for the radio, and he was one of the best in music. The man also known as “Fingerprints” was emboldened after the success of “Push It” in 1988 and never looked back. He wanted big hits — even at a time when “crossing over” was still viewed with skepticism.

Here are 10 hit tracks that showcase the sound of Hurby "Luv Bug."
