When Ashanti released her eponymous album in 2002, her talent was evident. Crowned the Princess of Hip-Hop and R&B, she has a captivating melodic tone but is also an impressive songwriter, penning all 12 tracks on the record. The album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and went triple platinum, selling 6 million copies worldwide. Her work earned her eight billboard awards, two AMA’s, and a Grammy.
Since then, Ashanti continues to make her mark in entertainment via music and as an author and critically acclaimed actor. This year alone, she plans to release new music, a book, and produce a documentary as well as a narrative project. She also announced a partnership with EQ exchange, a company using blockchain technology to support the artist-fan relationship. She is the first black woman to co-found a Web3 company.
In April, twenty years after her breakout debut, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her mark on the culture is solidified.
