While last night's Academy Awards will probably be best remembered for the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock, there was a more positive representation of classic Hip-Hop at the ceremony. Specifically, when Diddy took the stage to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of The Godfathersomething we celebrated here at Rock The Bells.

The Godfather montage was a blend of the film's classic score and some choice classic Hip-Hop songs. Specifically, the show chose to use JAY-Z's "Can I Live," Nas' "NY State of Mind," Kanye West's "Can't Tell Me Nothing," Lil Wayne's "A Milli," and Diddy's "All About the Benjamins."

Hip-Hop's inclusion at Hollywood's biggest night shouldn't be a surprise anymore. Whether it's an artist's own personal journey, lyrics, or a combination of both, the songs are a testament to how the Academy now puts the New York-born culture on equal footing with Tinsel Town.
