Talib Kweli and Madlib Set to Release 'Liberation 2' Next Month

Talib Kweli and super producer Madlib are linking up to deliver the sequel to their 2007 album, Liberation. Liberation 2 will be available next month exclusively on Luminary.

The first single from the project “After These Messages" features Kweli's son Amani while other tracks on the album feature the rapper’s daughter, Diani. Q-Tip, Wildchild, Roc Marciano, Westside Gunn, and a posthumous appearance from Mac Miller are also featured on the album, which was recorded between Kweli's two trips to Africa, including Ghana where he performed during Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensa's Black Star Line Festival.

Though Liberation 2 was over a decade in the making, Kweli and Madlib have continued to connect creatively including on last year's Black Star album, No Fear of Time.

“This album was written, recorded and mixed over ten years," Kweli said in a statement. "It’s expansive in concept but tight in its substance and approach. People today are taking stock of what is most important –  family, health, wellness, love.  The materialism and debauchery that is stereotypically associated with hip hop has lost some of its luster.  Madlib and I have been consistent in our messaging. Never has there been a better time for such honest, message driven music that pays tribute to the sounds that came before us.”
