Hieroglyphics is perhaps the most prolific underground Hip-Hop crew to emerge from the 1990s — and they’re still going.

Nearly 25 years after dropping their debut album, 1998’s 3rd Eye Vision, Tajai, A-Plus, Domino, Del The Funky Homosapien, Phesto, Pep Love, Casual, Opio and DJ Toure are amid their 10th annual Hiero Day weekend in their hometown of Oakland, California.

The packed weekend will culminate with Hiero Day on Monday (September 5), and those in attendance might find themselves in possession of new Hiero music.

In a recent Zoom interview with Rock The Bells, Tajai and A-Plus revealed they have a few tricks up their sleeves for the annual event.

“We got a Hiero NFT experience going on at Hiero Day,” Tajai said. “So for the people who do come to Hiero Day and sign up and get their crypto wallets and all that, they're going to get a special NFT and then that might entitle them to other goodies. An album might be part of that.”

But that’s not all. Five years before Hiero released their inaugural crew album, Souls of Mischief—Tajai, A-Plus, Opio and Phesto—delivered their prophetic debut, 93’ Til Infinity, which features the timeless Hip-Hop classics “Make Your Mind Up” and the title track. In honor of its 30th anniversary, the group is plotting a massive trek across the globe that would include 93 shows.

“We got the 30th anniversary of 93 'Til Infinity coming next year, so we've been working with a lot of people about really blowing that out,” Tajai said. “We're trying to do 93 shows. I'm getting offers in Europe. I mean, U.S. of course, but Europe, too. I got an offer from Brazil yesterday, so we're trying to market that. It's also the 20th anniversary of Full Circle and then also the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop.”

Presented by SOUNDCHAIN.IO, the all-day, all-ages event showcases over 30 live performances on three stages by the best legendary, underground and undiscovered artists in multiple genres. Hiero Day weekend kicked off on September 2 and continues through September 5. Check back with Rock The Bells soon for the full interview.
