On this week's episode of Salute the Sample, ROCK THE BELLS' exclusive series where LL COOL J, Greg Nice, and DJ Z-Trip breakdown the origin of some of Hip-Hop’s most beloved samples, the trio take a trip to Brazil for a deep dive into the 1963 standard, "Saudade Vem Correndo" from Stan Getz and Luiz Bonfa.
The song was sampled in 1995 for The Pharcyde classic, "Runnin," produced by the legendary J Dilla aka the inventor of "Dilla Time" and the undisputed king of the sample flip. "Runnin'" was featured on Pharcyde's second and last album, Labcabincalifornia. As Greg Nice points out, "The 90s was the jerkin' ya head era."
