On Sunday (7/2) ,the anniversary of the release of De La Soul's Stakes Is High, Posdnous shared a demo version of the title track that was created before J Dilla was commissioned to produce it.

"27 years ago 3 Long Island men gave you the The Stakes is High," he captioned his IG post. ""Every one of those 27 years De La Soul have been blessed with listeners letting us know what this album means to their lives. Thank You!" Pos went on to thank the late J. Dilla for 'Dilla-nizing" the original version of the song. The clip contained a chopped interpolation of "Smilin' Billy Suite Pt. II" by The Heath Brothers with Pos spitting "When the Stakes Is High ya damn sure try to do anything to get a piece of the pie and rectify...."

Stakes Is High marked De la Soul's fourth studio album, and their first not produced by Stetsasonic DJ Prince Paul. The project was produced by the group themselves, Skeff Anslem, J.Dilla, DJ Ogee and Spearhead X. The album was De La's most serious outing at the time, addressing the West Coast "Gangsta Rap" and its East Coast "Thug Rap" counterpart. Mos Def and Common were featured on "Big Brother Beat" and "The Bizness" respectively. Stakes Is High peaked at #13 on the billboard 200 and #4 Top R&B /Hip-Hop Albums.
