Pharrell Pays Off the Debt of NAACP Youth Leaders

Pharrell gave a group of Black graduates the gift of a lifetime; he announced on Friday (June 17) that he’s clearing the college debt of five students. During an NAACP panel at the St. Regis Hotel, the superproducer committed to eradicating the debt. The panel was to highlight the student debt crisis for Black scholars; and students had no idea they would be soon be debt-free, in regards to their student loans.

“Pharrell forever changed their lives," said panel organizer Wisdom Cole. "This was a powerful moment. Now just imagine if President Biden made this a reality for all student debt holders in America.”

Pharrell is also busy this weekend with the Something In The Water Festival. The second annual festival takes place over Juneteenth weekend (June 17-19) in Washington, D.C. Superstar guests will be joining festival creator Pharrell Williams; including Clipse, Justin Timberlake, Q-Tip, N.O.R.E. and SZA. There will also be sets by Anderson.Paak, 21 Savage, bLAck pARty and J Balvin, with a press release promising other surprise guests. The festival will be streamed by Amazon Music on June 17 through the Amazon Music Channel on Twitch and Prime Video, featuring multiple channels of content broadcasting a variety of acts.

"Amazon Music always has the most innovative programming and I'm thrilled they have come onboard to live stream Something In the Water," Williams said in a statement. "By livestreaming they are helping by giving access to so many people who can't travel to D.C. Juneteenth weekend."
