The TV One network declared on social media: “Him and remixes go hand in hand! #Unsung presents: The Hitmakers is back with an all new episode featuring @PeteRock.”

The producer, DJ, and sometimes MC who was one half of Pete Rock & CL. Smooth is the first to be honored on the new Hitmakers platform by Unsung. Pete Rock told Hip Hop Wired: “It should be a part two because there’s so much story to me, right?” He continued: “But I was all in. I want my story told. I want people to know how serious I was about what I did, especially the new young producers coming up in the game. So, this is like a good blueprint for them too.”

The one hour episode which aired on Sunday, March 27 chronicled Pete’s rise from a lover of records — due to his exposure to his father’s record collection — to a DJ who started with his cousin the late Heavy D, and earned his early reputation remixing R&B songs. There is also emphasis on the infamous basement where Pete created his magic and also recorded greats such as Run-DMC, Will Smith, LL COOL J, Jodeci, Nas, and The Notorious B.I.G.

Although DMC, Large Professor of Main Source, Pete’s brother Grap Luva of INI, and various family members gave testimony to Pete’s greatness, absent was Pete’s ex-partner CL Smooth. Significant time is spent discussing “T.R.O.Y." — Pete Rock & CL Smooth’s 1992 hit, as well as his collaboration with Loose Ends “Take Your Time” from 1998’s Soul Survivor.

As for today Pete says: “I have a label now, Tru Soul. It’s just a small label, but it’s mine. Im working on music and I got my first two artists AMXXR and a female rapper named Star.”

Pete’s new album Petestrumentals drops on March 31.
