Peacock's highly anticipated series, Bel-Air , is dropping in two weeks. The latest trailer for the series shows that this version of "Will" is dealing with a lot more than the “one little fight” that was referenced in the theme song of the original comedic series.
Following the original premise of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will is portrayed as a hardheaded trouble making teen growing up in West Philadelphia when his life catches up to him, ultimately forcing his mother to send him to live with his aunt and uncle in Bel-Air.
However, this time around, the hour-long drama series digs deeper into the story. In the latest teaser, Will — portrayed by Jabari Banks — enjoys a night out with friends playing basketball until he gets into a fight with local gang members in his hometown. Terrified, his mother sends him on the first flight to California to live with his affluent family in their Bel-Air mansion.
Director, co-writer, and executive producer Morgan Cooper shared when describing the series, “With this dramatic reimagining, we wanted to create a show that stands on its own while honoring the spirit and innovation of the original series. Because Bel-Air is a drama, we’re able to really peel back the layers of these characters and themes in a way that you simply couldn’t do 30 years ago in the half-hour sitcom format. We’re able to go have tough conversations that challenge perspectives.”
Bel-Air is set to premiere on Sunday, February 13, after the Super Bowl, and the first three episodes of the season will be released on Peacock at the same time.
