Nicki Minaj will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Nicki has previously received 17 VMA nominations and won five awards. This year, she's nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video for “Do We Have A Problem” featuring Lil Baby.

The rap star, who will release a new single, “Super Freaky Girl” on Aug. 12, is also set to perform at the award show this year, and she said it's a performance fans don't want to miss.

“Nicki has broken barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry,” said Bruce Gillmer, President of Music, Music Talent, Programming & Events, Paramount and Chief Content Officer, Music, Paramount+, in a statement. “She has shifted the music industry and cemented her status as a global superstar with her crossover appeal, genre-defying style and continuing to be unapologetically ‘Nicki.’”

Previous winners of the Vanguard Award include David Bowie, the Beatles, Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, and Missy Elliott. The VMAs will air Aug. 28 on MTV.
