Naomi Osaka Shouts Out Boyfriend Cordae's Album at Australian Open

Cordae’s latest album, From a Bird’s Eye View, got a plug at the Australian Open from the rapper’s tennis star girlfriend Naomi Osaka after her victory against Camila Osoria in the tournament’s second match on Monday (January 17). Osaka used her victory as a moment shout-out to her boyfriend’s sophomore studio album, which dropped last Friday (January 14).

When Osaka grabbed a marker to sign the camera lens, a common practice for victors in a pro tennis match, she opted out of signing her own signature and instead wrote “FABEV,” the abbreviation for the record.

FABEV features guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Stevie Wonder, Eminem, Nas, and more. The album is a candid reflection of his own life and personal experiences as he navigates his way from a young man to an international superstar.

“[I’ve been] transferring real-life events and experiences that I’ve really have gone through and transmuting them into the music,” Cordae told HipHopDX. “Each individual song has a certain memory and experience attached to it. [On the song] ‘Momma’s Hood,’ one of my best friends that I used to play basketball with got killed last summer, and it happened about a week after he came to L.A. to visit me. And a week after when he went back home, he got killed and that really affected me deeply, y’know?”
