MC Lyte is uplifting Hip-Hop's women. The Grammy-nominated emcee is a founding member of the Kennedy Center Hip-Hop Culture Council and on Friday (April 15), she will celebrate other women in Hip-Hop as she curates I Am Woman: A Celebration of Women In Hip-Hop. The celebration will also feature Da Brat, Trina, Remy Ma, Monie Love, MuMu Fresh, Yo-Yo, Mama Sol, Tierra Whack, Ra Brown and DJ EQUE; and is part of the Kennedy Center's 50th Anniversary.

The event will be complimented by "MC Lyte Presents Beats, Brains and Business," a development workshop earlier in the day.

“We’re getting ready for a huge celebration on Friday," Lyte told WJLA News 7 in D.C. "It’s going to be so dynamic and I’m thrilled that the Kennedy Center decided that I was the one to curate this wonderful evening of ladies in Hip Hop.”

“We have a few surprises and a performance by yours truly, and it’s going to be a great time.”

Lyte has done a similar event for the Essence Fest in New Orleans, and she shared the stage at the Kennedy Center with MuMu Fresh previously for Black Girls Rock.

Tickets prices range from $49-$149, and the event starts at 8p.m. on Friday April 15th.
