LL COOL J has just revealed he will not be performing at this year’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve celebration. According to Variety, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be sidelined until tested negative.
“I know it’s disappointing to the millions of fans, but my test came back positive for COVID, which means I’ll no longer be able to perform as scheduled at ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,’” he said in a statement. “We were ready, and I was really looking forward to ringing in 2022 in my hometown in a special way, but for now, I wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year. The best is yet to come!“
Big Boi and Sleepy Brown, French Montana, Ciara, and D-Nice are still on the bill, but Chlöe of Chlöe & Halle fame was forced to pull out as well.
LL COOL J’s positive test result also means he won’t attend Kangol Kid’s funeral service. The U.T.F.O. rap pioneer lost his battle with Stage 4 colon cancer on December 18, just 10 months after receiving his diagnosis.
The event is scheduled to take place at on Sunday (January 2) at the Polygon Club in Brooklyn. KRS-One, Slick Rick, Kool DJ Red Alert, U.T.F.O. member Mix Master Ice, Kurtis Blow, the Beastie Boys’ former DJ Hurricane, Sway Calloway, Roxanne Shanté, Melle Mel, and Whodini’s Grandmaster Dee are expected to attend.
Here’s to a speedy recovery to our founder LL COOL J.
