Grammy award-winning emcee Kool Moe Dee is one of hip-hop’s most iconic figures. A technical emcee since his days with the Treacherous Three, Moe Dee has always represented a standard-bearer for rhyme supremacy.
With his influence on hip-hop culture, Kool Moe Dee would also become a revered curator of hip-hop music, and he famously issued "rap report cards" at the end of the 1980s and also when the 1990s drew to a close. On Monday (January 10), an image of Kool Moe Dee’s 90s “rap report card” found its way onto the Twittersphere. On the card, the emcee gave rappers letter grades based on their vocabulary, articulation, creativity, originality, versatility, voice, records, stage presence, sticking to themes, and innovation.
Coming out on top was the incredible Ms. Lauryn Hill, scoring an A+ on Moe Dee’s report card. The former Fugee scored perfectly in almost every category, and scored 90% in both stage presence and themes. Following close behind were The Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, Busta Rhymes, Treach of Naughty By Nature, and Mystikal.
