Kanye West continues to dominate the entertainment news cycle, today with his claim that his Stem Player which he refers to as the “First Yeezy Tech Product” has brought in $2.2 million in sales in one day. Kanye made news last week when he announced that his latest offering Donda 2 would be available exclusively on the player. “To earn the $2.2 million, we made the first day on the Stem Player the album would have had to stream 500 million times” West said. Kanye is referring to the standard payout of between $0.003 and $0.005 that artists receive per stream from streaming services. “We did more revenue on the Stem Player without the album even being out than we would have done with the album being out on streaming” he continued.

“Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes, it’s time to free music from this oppressive system. It’s time to take control and build your own” said Kanye. “You can download new music from stemplayer.com. You can play 4 different elements of the track: vocals, drums, bass and music, it also has an mp3 player available. We currently have 67,000 available and are making 3000 a day.”

Snoop Dogg who recently purchased Death Row Records has also used technology to leverage more control over his music and increase his bottom line. Snoop’s latest album B.O.D.R. back on Death Row is being released as “Stash Box” NFT’s and he plans for Death Row to be the be the first record label in the metaverse.
