Ja Rule and Irv Gotti of Murder Inc. will appear on an upcoming (Thursday, 8/4) episode of Drink Champs with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. In the promo clip, Irv addresses his issues with his former artist Ashanti.
"I made those records, I made those records!" Gotti says, referring to Ashanti re-recording her debut album to control ownership of her masters.
Previously, Ashanti talked with Angie Martinez about why she re-recorded the project. "I re-recorded the album to show the business side of ownership and how important it is to own," she said. "Once I re-record the album, I own it."
Irv and Ja rule also spoke about DMX's debut album, Flesh Of My Flesh Blood Of My Blood, and the two songs that Irv produced on it.
Earlier this summer, Irv made headlines when he sold half of his ownership in his masters to Iconoclast, and also inked a lucrative television and film production deal with the company.
"I'm signing a deal worth $300 million," Gotti told World Star Hip Hop. "I'ma tell you what it is. $100 million of the deal is me selling my masters. I own 50-50 with Universal Music Group — half my masters is worth $100 million. That's fuckin' insane! Not only is the company [Iconoclast] buying masters, they're giving me like a $200 million line of credit for me not just to produce and create, but to own my own television [interests]."
