The life of Lola Mitchell, known to the world as rapper Gangsta Boo, was celebrated on Friday (Jan. 13) in her hometown of Memphis, Tenn. The celebration of life began on Friday at popular venue Railgarten, where family and friends said an emotional goodbye to the rap star.

As Gangsta Boo's music played, her mother danced and notables like Three Six Mafia alum La Chat helped lead the crowd through a tribute to the “Queen of Memphis.”

“This young lady was not just a great performer, but she really set the stage for what came after her," said Karlisha Benymon, Boo's cousin. "Artists who came after her are here today because of what she started in the '80s and the '90s. It says a lot about our city, and it says a lot about her.”

“Gangsta Boo was like a mentor to me. She always showed love,” producer HitKidd told media in attendance. “For the past three years, she always made sure she called and checked up on me.. especially when things really started going fast.”

And on Saturday, hundreds gathered at Brown Missionary Baptist Church in Southaven, Mississippi to bid farewell to Lola Mitchell.
