Los Angeles rapper Drakeo The Ruler has been pronounced dead on Sunday (December 19) after a stabbing at the Once Upon a Time festival at the Banc of California and Exposition Park in LA.
The West Coast rap star was slated to go on stage for his set at 8:30 before a fight broke out backstage. According to law enforcement sources, during the altercation, Drakeo The Ruler was stabbed in the neck, immediately getting rushed to the hospital by LAPD Highway Patrol and the fire department. Multiple sources say he died from his injuries. The rapper was 28.
After the altercation and stabbing, concert organizers shut down the festival, canceling headliners 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg’s closing sets.
Drakeo The Ruler was a leader in the Los Angeles hip-hop scene. Being called “the most original West Coast stylist in decades,” by the Los Angeles Times for his signature witty delivery and leaned-out flow, the rapper was a mainstay for the new wave of West Coast rappers.
His 2017 breakout mixtape, Cold Devil, launched the rapper into mainstream popularity, garnering the attention of hip-hop A-listers like Drake, Lil Yachty, Torey Lanez, and more.
Once the news broke, tributes started to pour in for the late rapper from close friends, family, and collaborators.
