On Friday (November 19), HBO shared the official trailer for the upcoming Music Box documentary, DMX: Don’t Try to Understand, set to arrive on Thursday, November 25 in HBO Max.

The film follows X’s life after he was released from prison in January of 2019, following the rapper as he returns to his family, children, and career as one of rap’s most inspirational artists. In the trailer, DMX is determined to spread “the gospel according to X” as he attempts to get his life back on track.

Shot just two years before his untimely death, Don’t Try to Understand finds the rapper in a state of determination as he takes steps toward recovery, emphasizing his spirituality, and continuing his business ventures.

Don’t Try to Understand was directed by Christopher Frierson and is part of HBO’s Music Box series, executive-produced by Bill Simmons. The series has previously produced documentaries on Woodstock 99 and Alanis Morisette, with an upcoming film about the life and career of late Chicago rapper Juice WRLD.
